Traps and Disputed Answers

The 22 Odoo certification questions candidates miss most: putaway, picking methods, lock dates, pricelists, Gantt colours, with the right answer and why.

These questions were answered differently across attempts, or sat in sections that scored low. They are worth 10–15 points, which is the gap between 75 % and 90 %.

For each one: what was picked, what is most likely right, and how to verify it in 2 minutes in a trial database.

T1 · Do themes have their own building blocks? (Website)

  • Picked in May/June: "Each theme has specific blocks" ❌
  • Correct: No. All themes share the same building blocks and features. A theme only changes fonts, colours and layout presets.
  • Verify: Website > Edit > Theme > Switch Theme, then compare the Blocks panel.

T2 · Timer stopped after 4 minutes (Timesheets)

  • July attempt picked "4 minutes" ❌. Odoo 19 attempt picked "15 minutes" ✅ (section result confirms it).
  • Rule: Timesheets settings default to Minimal duration = 15 min and Round up = 15 min. Anything under 15 min becomes 15. 16 min becomes 30.

T3 · Pricelist for anonymous website visitors (eCommerce)

  • Picked: "The pricelist called Default, regardless of country group/order" ❌ (eCommerce was weak that attempt)
  • Rule: Odoo takes pricelists that are available on the website, in list order (sequence), and uses the first whose country group matches the visitor's GeoIP country. If none matches, it uses the first pricelist without a country group. The name "Default" means nothing.
  • Verify: create two pricelists, reorder them, then open the shop in a private window.

T4 · Vendor selection with several price lines (Purchase)

  • Lines: Azure min 20 @ 450 · Azure min 10 @ 470 · Camille min 1 @ 420 · Azure min 1 @ 500. Need: max 15 − on-hand 4 = 11.
  • Picked: $450 ❌ (450 needs ≥ 20 units)
  • Rule: _select_seller keeps lines whose min qty ≤ qty to order and whose dates are valid, then takes them in sequence (list order). Here that is Azure @ 470. If the question asks generally: "the first vendor in the list that matches the minimum quantity".

T5 · Purchase security lead time (Purchase)

  • One attempt picked "Today + 20", another "Today + 15".
  • Rule: Security lead time is a buffer that makes Odoo order earlier: the reordering rule looks 15 + 5 = 20 days ahead. A PO confirmed today is still expected today + vendor lead time (15). Answer Today + 15 ⚠️ (confirm in your trial DB: Inventory settings > Security Lead Time for Purchase).

T6 · Putaway with storage capacity (Inventory)

  • Fridge 1: 77/100, Fridge 2: 90/100 (last used), 30 units arrive. Picked "20 / 10 split" and "All in WH/Stock".
  • Rule: putaway is evaluated per move line. Odoo picks the first location (rule order + strategy) that can hold the whole quantity. It never splits a line, so neither fridge fits → WH/Stock (the parent).
  • Verify: Lab 5 in .

T7 · Batch vs Wave vs Cluster picking (Inventory)

Method What it is Needs
Batch Several whole transfers grouped and picked together Batch transfers
Cluster Batch picking where each order goes in its own package/cart slot Batch + packages
Wave Lines from many orders grouped by zone/location/product Wave transfers (created from operations, not whole pickings)
- "Optimise by location" → Wave. "Pickers in zones, several orders at once, minimise walking" → Wave transfers, one picker per zone.

T8 · Inventory count frequency (Inventory)

  • The FALSE statement is "You can set the frequency of inventory counts for product categories". Frequency is set on locations (Inventory Frequency (days)) and the Annual Inventory Day is set on the company.

T9 · BoM Overview vs MPS (MRP)

  • Picked "Master Production Schedule" twice; MRP was ~67–80 %.
  • Correct: BoM Overview. It shows each component's availability, lead time, cost and the resulting earliest date. The MPS plans quantities per period. It doesn't show component lead times.

T10 · Merging MOs (MRP)

  • Picked "Only MOs in the draft state can be merged".
  • Docs: MOs can be merged only if they're for the same product with the same BoM (and not started/done). → choose "identical products with the same BoM".

T11 · Replenish Scrapped Quantities (MRP, v19)

  • Picked "The option doesn't appear". For a 2/3-step manufacturing warehouse, the scrap wizard opened from the MO/Shop Floor offers Replenish quantities. It creates a Pick Components transfer for the scrapped amount. → choose "A Pick Components transfer is automatically created".

T12 · Invoicing Switch Threshold vs Reverse (Accounting)

  • Picked "Select the entries > Action > Reverse" twice.
  • Correct: set the date in the Invoicing Switch Threshold (Accounting settings). Every entry before that date is taken out of accounting automatically. That is the only option that is automatic, which is what the question asks.

T13 · Bill dated in a locked tax period (Accounting, v18)

  • Odoo 18 reworked lock dates (Sales / Purchases / Tax Return / Everything / Hard lock) and added exceptions.
  • Posting a bill dated before the tax lock date doesn't raise an error. Odoo moves the accounting date into the first open period, so the VAT lands in the next return. "Odoo won't let you validate" is the old (≤ v16) behaviour.

T14 · Accounts shared across companies (Accounting, v18)

  • Picked "No, each account belongs to one company". Odoo 18 introduced shared accounts: one account can be assigned to several companies. → choose the "Yes" option.

T15 · Gantt dependency arrows & milestone colours (Project)

  • Arrow A → B: B depends on A (A must finish first). Arrow colours: normal = respected; red = the plan violates the dependency (B starts before A ends). Hovering offers to reschedule.
  • Milestone colours (project dashboard/right panel): red = deadline exceeded and not reached; green = can be/has been marked reached (all linked tasks done). "Deadline is today" was picked twice and the section wasn't 100 %.

T16 · Stage progress bar colours (Project, tasks)

Colour Task status
Green Approved / Done
Orange Changes Requested
Red Cancelled
Blue Waiting (blocked by another task)
Grey In Progress

T17 · Knowledge: article opened by default

  • Options seen: last edited / first article of my menu / last read / top of favourites. ⚠️ Odoo opens the first accessible article in your sidebar (favourites first). Verify by opening Knowledge with and without favourites.

T18 · Knowledge vs Command Palette prefixes

/ = menus & commands · @ = users · # = channels · ? = Knowledge articles.

T19 · POS combos and restaurant features (POS, weakest section)

  • Combo choices: any product, variants included (Odoo 18 combo lines use product variants).
  • Floors & tables: restaurant mode; merge/transfer tables; courses (v19: "Transfer course").
  • Table booking: enabled from POS settings, run by Appointments (resources = tables, combinable tables).
  • QR-code menu / self-order: works on Standard and Community-level hosting. "Needs Enterprise licence" is false.
  • Customer account payment: the amount becomes a receivable (debt) to settle later.

T20 · Studio tooltip vs placeholder

  • Tooltip (field help): text shown when hovering the field label.
  • Placeholder: grey hint inside an empty input, gone once filled.
  • Distractor to avoid: "tooltip only in debug mode".

T21 · Lead from an email alias (CRM)

  • Created in the team of the alias. The salesperson stays empty unless Rule-based assignment is active (CRM settings) or the alias defines one. v19 adds "auto-assign to team leaders".

T22 · Odoo version-specific wording
