Implementation blueprint based on the patterns of real Odoo projects. Company names are illustrative, so the configuration and the lessons apply directly to your business.

1. Company profile

"Ayur Glow Skincare" (fictional): sells on its own website, Amazon and Flipkart, and via Instagram. Products are made by a contract manufacturer. 2 warehouses (own + a 3PL). 1,500 orders/day at peak.

2. Pain points

Overselling across channels, manual order entry, COD reconciliation, returns chaos, no customer view across channels.

3. Apps

Website/eCommerce, Sales, Inventory, Purchase (+ subcontracting with the contract manufacturer), Accounting, Email/SMS/WhatsApp Marketing, Marketing Automation, Social Marketing, Helpdesk, Amazon connector (or partner connectors for Flipkart/Shopify), shipping connectors (Shiprocket/Delhivery via partner modules; Sendcloud/ShipStation in v20).

4. Design decisions

Topic Decision
Single stock pool All channels sell from Odoo stock; marketplace connector syncs stock and imports orders
Fulfilment Own warehouse: pick + pack + ship with batch/wave picking; 3PL: a warehouse whose transfers are confirmed by an API/CSV
Contract manufacturing Subcontracting BoM: send packaging/raw ingredients, receive finished products
Payments Payment providers (Razorpay/Stripe), COD as a payment method reconciled against courier remittance
Returns Returns portal (v20): customer requests a return, prints the label; RMA into a "Returns โ€“ QC" location
Marketing Abandoned-cart emails, post-purchase flows (Marketing Automation), loyalty points, review requests (v20 automated review emails)
Support Helpdesk with order-linked tickets; WhatsApp channel
Product content v20 AI product editing (descriptions, images), Google Merchant Center feed (v19)

5. Configuration steps

  1. eCommerce: product pages, attribute filters, cart upsells (accessory/optional/alternative), checkout steps, delivery methods with rules (free over โ‚น499), COD.
  2. Connectors: Amazon (accounts, marketplaces, sync stock), shipping carrier integration.
  3. Inventory: delivery in 3 steps for the own warehouse; packing station with Put in Pack and shipping labels.
  4. Subcontracting BoM with the contract manufacturer and resupply route.
  5. Marketing Automation: workflows Welcome, Abandoned cart, Win-back 60 days.
  6. Accounting: marketplace settlement reconciliation (fees as expense lines), COD remittance matching via reconciliation models.

6. KPIs

Conversion rate, AOV, CAC/ROAS (UTM campaigns), return rate by SKU, stock cover days, contribution margin per channel.

7. Pitfalls

  • Set safety stock buffers per channel to avoid overselling during sync delays.
  • Marketplace fee reconciliation can't be skipped; automate it with reconciliation models.
  • High volume needs Odoo.sh or adequate hosting; test peak loads.

8. Version notes

v18 v19 v20
Click & collect, eCommerce on mobile /shop redesign, Google Merchant feeds, quick reorder, Click & Collect stock widget, Gelato print-on-demand Returns portal & customer-printed labels, pay on invoice, delivery-date choice, AI product editing, automated review requests, GA4 events, ShipStation/Sendcloud pickup points
